Lone Oak State Nature Preserve was dedicated on September 25, 2014. Located in Grayson County, the 34-acre preserve protects a unique limestone slope glade community with barrens and prairie remnants adjoining the glade. A state threatened plant, the hispid falsemallow occurs in the glades and Kentucky’s best population of a globally rare invertebrate species has been documented on the preserve. Protection and enhancement of open habitat is very important to the continued survival of these species. Management will include prescribed fire and brush removal. At this time, access is by written permission for scientific research. The preserve will be open to the public once a trail system is completed.
